Do lions go to school?
Happy Lunar New Year! Today February 19th, 2016, the Van Hanh Lion Dance Team went to Inez Elementary School. The team was greeted by
friendly staff and volunteers. The performance started in the Kindergarten wing of the school.
The drums started beating and the Lions were off! Children from the classrooms lined the halls as the Lions paraded through the school. As the band moved through the halls, the Lions moved to their beat playing with the children. At first, some of the kids were scared, then they realized the Lions meant no harm. The Lions would stop and let everyone pet them then they would playfully keep dancing. The Van Hanh Team finally danced their way outside towards the school gym.
Inside the school gym, students and faculty lined the walls while the Lions danced whimsically around. The children laughed, giggled, and screamed with joy while watching the show. It is amazing to watch these magical lions come to life. This team is so impressive, after a while you forget there are people inside of them! The children of Inez Elementary were very respectful of the Lions.
At the conclusion of the parade, the students and faculty were electrified to see the Pink Lion grow to twice his size, rearing up on his hind legs! As usual, the lions and team members made themselves available for pictures and questions.
So, do lions go to school? The answer is yes, the Lions will go anywhere to spread joy and happiness! Thank you to Inez Elementary School for being so kind. The Van Hanh Lion Dance Team cannot wait to see you again next year!
